A client centred approach to bathing
Adam Ferry, Occupational Therapist, The OT Service.
Seminar room. 11:00 – 11:30am.
This seminar highlights clinical and legislative
evidence to support bath justification and funding. Delegates will be able to
discuss the wellbeing-related and safety benefits of bathing verses adapted
showering, as well as the benefits to OTs of prescribing a specialist bath for
clients.
Abacus has an ongoing educational programme which supports OTs, Physiotherapists and moving and handling practitioners. It encompasses free online information, workshops and seminars focusing on safe bathing for disabled children and adults. Material supports back injury prevention for carers whilst highlighting techniques that reduce client falls and protect dignity. Adam’s seminar content is taken from this initiative which also details relevant legislation regarding the provision of accessible baths and possible routes to funding.
On stand 07, Adam will be supporting demonstrations of the new Gemini 2000 hi-lo bath from Abacus. This 2-metre long bath is the largest platform bath available on the market and delivers assured future-proof bathing for children and adults. The Gemini 2000 reduces transfer risks and increases bather comfort through unique ‘double-lift’ functionality and an integrated drying, changing and bathing platform. It encompasses advanced ergonomics and antimicrobial technology for 99.9%, 24/7 protection, against harmful microbes such as Influenza H1N1, E.coli, Salmonella and antibiotic resistant MRSA.
