Abacus to highlight its Disabled Facilities Grant baths at Kidz North
Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions will be highlighting how its accessible baths can be supplied through DFGs at Kidz to Adultz North.
1st November 2023, 9.30am – 4pm. Manchester Central, Manchester, M2 3GX. Stand F3.
Abacus is one of the most respected manufacturers of accessible baths for young and adult bathers with disabilities. Its proven range of powered baths are commonly first choice for families and occupational therapists seeking safe solutions for a variety of client conditions. At Kidz North, Regional Assessment Managers from Abacus will be joined by independent occupational therapists from The OT Service who together, will be able to explain the bathing range along with possible funding sources. Disabled Facilities Grants remain a popular choice if personally financing a specialist bath is a challenge – how to apply for this funding will be explained on stand F3.
DFGs are provided by local authorities so houses can be adapted to meet the needs of residents with disabilities. As part of this grant, the purchase of an Abacus bath can either be fully or partially funded and typically is part of an overall bathroom conversion. If accessing a standard bath is impossible or represents a risk, Grant Officers and occupational therapists can assess and recommend equipment to maintain safety and independence in the home. Abacus has a proven track record of working closely with local authorities so can provide all the DFG support and guidance needed by families to achieve successful applications and outcomes.
In terms of baths, the Abacus stand will display the hi-lo platform Gemini and hoist accessible Aries. The original Gemini 1700 and new oversized 2000 versions provide safer transfers and greater reassurance through an inbuilt bathing and drying platform. Eliminating many aspects of moving and handling, the Gemini won the OT Show Excellence in Caring Award and hence is recommended by many healthcare professionals. With its unique, dual lift technology, carers and parents can provide personal care and eye level interaction without the risk of back injury.
Alongside the Gemini 2000, the new larger Aries 2000 will be available for demonstrations. Designed for use with ceiling track and mobile hoists, the Aries range provides safe bathing for individuals who require greater support. Kate Sheehan, Occupational Therapist, says: “The larger Aries provides older children and adults with the ideal environment for relaxation and pain relief. It can be used as part of a sleep hygiene programme to improve quality of sleep.” Kate’s colleague Adam Ferry, OT, will be on hand throughout the show to offer impartial clinical advice regarding client assessments so the most appropriate bathing solutions for children and young adults are identified.
