Synopsis
Support for bathing, particularly in adults, is often focused on medical need rather than occupational ‘want’. This session will consider the clinical reasoning behind bathing and medically focused evidence base, including skin conditions and pain, as well as perceptions around when bathing is not appropriate due to diagnosis.
Learning outcomes
- Reflection on the perceptions about who can bathe and why
- Consider the impact of specific medical conditions on bathing
- Critically analyse the application of occupational therapy core beliefs
- Understand the relationship between bathing and occupational performance
- Develop greater understanding of equipment available to support bathing as a meaningful occupation
The CPD educational session will be complemented by an Abacus bath display on stand 22. Visitors will be able to experience the award-winning Gemini 2000 platform bath with expert guidance from an Abacus Regional Assessment Manager. The 2-metre long Gemini is a spacious bath with an integrated changing and drying platform and unique dual-lift variable height. It provides a proven, future proofed bathing solution for disabled adults and developing children.
Abacus will be able to discuss individual client cases on a one-to-one basis whilst offering impartial clinical guidance regarding appropriate assisted bathing. A range of free material will be available including case studies, DFG application guides and BioCote results data – a world leading antimicrobial additive in all Abacus baths.
